Insurance Fraud

A person commits insurance fraud if he/she, with intent to defraud, presents false information or knowingly conceals information in applying for, renewing or submitting a claim under an insurance policy.  Depending on the severity of the offense, penalties for insurance fraud can range from a maximum fine of $5,000 to $50,000 and a maximum sentence from 5 to 15 years.  The person can also be required to make restitution.  D.C.
