Bin Ladin on Bin Ladin
by Jamison Koehler on May 2, 2011
Through my periodic “Overheard on Twitter” updates, regular readers of this blog know that I am a big fan of whoever it is that masquerades as Osama Bin Ladin on Twitter. Bin Ladin’s death yesterday did cause me concern that we would no longer be hearing from this very clever person. Thankfully, Mr. Bin Laden continued to tweet this morning. His latest:
@alqaeda: I always thought that seals were such cute, friendly creatures. Boy, did I get that one wrong.
@alqaeda: In hindsight, I should have known something was up when the big guy in pink said “Ding dong! Avon calling!”[Note: Sober reflection is not necessarily inconsistent with having a sense of humor about these things.]
Also interesting, I thought, was a piece posted by Mother Jones. The article points out that American right-wingers and Bin Ladin sympathizers have had virtually an identical reaction to the news of Bin Ladin’s death: Both sides insist they will need to see a photograph of Bin Ladin’s dead body before they believe the current Administration. Hat-tip to Trace Raburn for posting a link to this article on Twitter.
